We have a special pirate display up right now with a cool pirate coloring contest! This contest is being held in conjunction with Regal Cinemas in Round Lake Beach. All you have to do is stop in, grab a coloring sheet, color it as best you can, and then drop it off at the Regal Cinema Theater @ 55 E. Rollins Rd., Round Lake Beach, IL 60073. You could win hats, t-shirts, activity books, and a grand prize of 4 free tickets to see The Pirates! Band of Misfits.

We have butterflies!

Stop by the Youth Services Department and check out our developing butterflies! They will grow to be Painted Lady Butterflies, but are currently in the cocoon stage. We are expecting them to break out of their cocoons in the next week or two, so make sure you stop in to check them out soon! Even Rronaldo is in on the fun, ready with his butterfly catcher should any escape before their release to the outside world!

It’s that time of year again! Join us on Saturday, April 14^th, for our annual Pet Expo. We will be hosting various rescue and adoption groups from the area, as well as some very special guests. We will be featuring Save-a-Pet, Collie Rescue, Illinois/Wisconsin Rescue Group, Spay and Stay, Jackie’s Classic Collies, Nadja the police dog, and Fred the therapy dog. Stop by anytime from 1:00-3:00pm to visit with the rescue groups, get some pet adoption information, and enter a drawing for some pet supplies.

The theme for this year’s National Library Week, April 9th-15th, is You Belong @ Your Library. What better way to celebrate than with a bookmark design contest?

Children in grades 1 through 8 are invited to pick up an entry form at the Youth Services Reference Desk, and design a bookmark around the National Library Week theme of You Belong @ Your Library. Winners from three age categories will be selected and will receive a $10 Wal-Mart gift card and a framed copy of their bookmark design. The three age categories are as follows: 1st-2nd grade, 3rd-5th grade, and 6th-8th grade. Entries will be accepted beginning April 1st and the deadline for submitting entries will be April 13th. Winners will be notified by April 17th.

This past Saturday, March 3rd, we hosted the briXwerX Creativity Labs Lego Lab and it was a huge success! Lots of kids came out and built some pretty amazing Lego creations. The stuffed animals are all worn out from their sleepover last night (they stayed up kind of late), but they had a great time making new friends! See for yourself just how much fun they had by clicking on the picture below!

Unfortunately, due to the weather, we are rescheduling the Stuffed Animal Sleepover that was going to be held tonight. The new date and time for the Stuffed Animal Sleepover will be as follows:

Storytime and Stuffed Animal Drop-off: Tuesday, January 24th at 5:00 p.m.

Stuffed Animal Pick-up: Wednesday, January 25th anytime from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
